"I started donating when I was in high school about 30 years ago."
"I was in high school walking down the hallway and they had signs to give blood, and you had to take some kind of form home for your parents to sign and release you. My mother signed it and I've been doing it since then. My son will turn 16 next year so he will start donating next year. We'll make it a family tradition.
I donate double red so I think I go 3 times a year. I think I started out donating in Wisconsin, that's where I grew up at, and so then when I moved to Iowa I think once I got done with college I started donating again.
I feel that people need our assistance, you know, and therefore it was a good thing to do so I do it. I love to volunteer and I love to give so I am very grateful for LifeServe. They are very accommodating If I have to change my appointment, no problem. If I come in a few minutes late, no big deal. And then when I'm here early, no big deal, they get me squeezed in. Everybody's laughing, everybody's fun, you know. Makes it easy.
I would encourage other people to donate because if you were in an accident today, and you needed blood, you'll want somebody to gave the pints, or 4 or 5 pints for you. And so when you donate you're able to assist somebody else."
