"I started with whole blood, and then over the years I went to double red, and then apheresis either platelets or plasma."

"I'm working on my 32nd gallon! Well it's just paying it forward, just knowing people over the years that have had a need for blood, particularly those that have had cancer, and that's why I donate platelets. And I know there's alternatives out there, where I could get paid, but I'm just paying it forward. So that's the main reason.

Well I've donated here for years and the people in Urbandale are just great, Katie, and Connie at the front desk, and everybody I've dealt with out there has just been super. I would think that somebody that has not donated before would probably have some fear about having a needle stuck in your arm, but the people that I've had do that at LifeServe are very good at it. There's just an initial stick but you just have to think about the benefits of the cancer patients, all the people that need blood, that if you donate every 8 weeks, or I've donated every 2 weeks at times, so you're just always helping somebody."

Paying it forward means performing a good deed in kindness to others, without asking anything in return. This could be in the form of buying someone's groceries, tipping a little extra, or offering advice.

We pay it forward with blood donations, so that everyone, no matter where they are in our community, will always have access to the blood products they may need.
