LifeServe Celebrates Our Volunteers

The National Blood Donation Hall of Fame is a unique program that not only recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to blood donation but also encourages others to follow in their footsteps. By highlighting their achievements, it serves as a motivation for others to get involved and make a difference in their communities.

Fresenius Kabi has been partnering with blood centers for over 25 years, making a significant impact in the blood donation community. Their dedication to this cause is truly commendable. It's wonderful to see a company taking the initiative to acknowledge and honor individuals who have made a significant impact in this area.

YvonneDauterive

2023 Honoree

Yvonne Dauterive
Des Moines, Iowa

"I have found that sense of purpose."

Yvonne Dauterive was a regular blood donor for many years; having received blood on a few occasions herself, and having had a niece who passed away from leukemia at age three, she knew how important the blood supply was. When she retired from the chaotic world of IT, she felt she “had to do something more for the greater good of all people and to honor my niece.” So, for the past two years, Yvonne has given more than 500 hours to LifeServe, delivering blood products to local hospitals and picking up and packaging food donations, each multiple times a week.

Yvonne has an incredible work ethic and, drawing on her past professional experience, happily shares knowledge or makes suggestions that improve how things are done — and always with an abundance of energy that brightens everyone’s days. But most importantly, Yvonne loves, and takes great pride in, being part of the blood donation community, “I was looking for a place that was welcoming… Many of the people in the hospitals, in the labs and other volunteers, I now call friends.”

2020 Honoree

Warren Pitcher
Des Moines, Iowa

"I enjoy the people and giving back. I donate because I know the only way patients can receive blood is through someone donating. I enjoy volunteering because I can continue to give back between my donations, and I get restless."

Warren Pitcher is one of the most familiar faces you’ll see at LifeServe in Des Moines – which is saying something, since he’s not an employee! He’s a 16 gallon donor with more than 100 donations under his belt. Whether it’s red cells, platelets, or plasma, Warren is willing to give whatever product helps his O+ donation pack the most punch. In addition to taking his seat in the donor chair, Warren also chairs a community blood drive of his own and has done so for the past 25 years! It’s hard to compare apples and oranges, but what may be one of Warren’s most impressive contributions to the blood donation cause is the absolutely astounding amount of time he has volunteered for LifeServe. As a volunteer driver, Warren has spent more than 4,000 hours transporting blood products to hospitals and within our LifeServe network. His generous gift of time has saved LifeServe more than $95,000 in transportation fees!

Warren’s commitment to LifeServe soon carried over to more than just donating blood. For years, Warren helped run his church’s blood drive. But when the previous chairpeople needed to step down from running it, Warren stepped up. He has now been the primary chairperson for this church blood drive for over 25 years! During his time in this position, Warren has helped impact the lives of over 3,500 hospital patients.

We’re honored Warren has dedicated so much of his life, time, talents, and blood to LifeServe Blood Center!

StevePringle

2019 Honoree

Steve Pringle
Des Moines, Iowa

Congratulations to Des Moines area volunteer Steve Pringle, who is being inducted into the Fresenius Kabi Blood Donation Hall of Fame!

Steve Pringle, an army veteran, found a new way to serve during his retirement—as a blood donor and center volunteer at LifeServe Blood Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Pringle knew first-hand the importance of blood donation from his tours in Vietnam. He happily donates whatever blood component is needed most on any given day. He’s donated more than 63 gallons, according to LifeServe in Des Moines. He’s also logged 4,000 volunteer hours at the center, more than anyone else in the organization during his tenure, touching almost every department with his generosity.
