MAKE YOUR BEST DONATION EVER DURING THE BEST DAYS EVER AT THE IOWA STATE FAIR
Last Updated on August 16, 2023
DES MOINES, IOWA (August 16, 2023) – Summer in Iowa means school vacation, family holidays, stunning sunsets, fresh sweet corn, long bicycle rides, the nation’s greatest state fair, and an increased need for blood. This year, LifeServe Blood Center has partnered with iHeart Radio’s, The Simon Conway Show to bring a blood drive directly to fairgoers on Friday, August 18th at the Iowa State Fair.
LifeServe Blood Center is the sole supplier of blood products to hospitals in the Des Moines metropolitan area, and partners with 161 hospitals primarily in the tri-state region of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. With a service region that stretches across the three states, LifeServe is excited to connect with fairgoers from different communities who have a desire to save local lives. Reilly Cady, Regional Director, shared excitement for this event, “As the single largest event in the state of Iowa, LifeServe is excited to be part of the Iowa State Fair in hosting a blood drive with our partners at WHO Radio. This blood drive will allow us to connect with fairgoers about the importance of supporting Iowa’s blood supply through donating with your local blood center.”
Interested donors can find two LifeServe bloodmobile buses on the Grand Concourse at the western end of Grand Avenue from 9:00am-5:30pm. The bloodmobile buses will be located across from the DNR building, outside the iHeart/WHO Radio building, with the closest, most convenient entrance/exit being GATE 11 (Grand Entrance). LifeServe Blood Center reminds the community that donors must first have admission to the fair to donate.
With the 2023 Iowa State Fair theme dubbed Best Days Ever, LifeServe challenges the community to have their best donation ever and give the greatest gift to local hospital patients. To prepare for the best donation ever, in the 24-hours leading up to and following donating, interested donors should increase their water intake, eat foods rich in iron, and avoid alcoholic beverages. Cady explained the pivotal time for this blood drive, “The summer is a time of high need for blood products and as the primary provider of those products to much of the state of Iowa, LifeServe is looking forward to providing a lifesaving opportunity to create the best days ever for local hospital patients in need.” Add saving local lives to your Iowa State Fair bucket list by donating blood with LifeServe on Friday, August 18th from 9:00 am – 5:30pm.
