LifeServers Win Governor's Award
Last Updated on August 13, 2021
LifeServe Blood Center is proud to announce that two of our volunteers, Linda Brookins and Jean Curley, have been selected as winners of the Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Award!
The Governor’s Volunteer Award program honors the dedicated people who volunteer their time and talent to help an agency or organization deliver on its mission. Nonprofits, charitable organizations, and government entities (city, county, state, and federal) may recommend a Governor’s Volunteer Award for an individual volunteer or group of volunteers who directly assisted the organization with a project, event, or activity.
Congratulations to Linda and Jean! We’re happy to have you as members of our LifeServe family. Read on to see our nomination submissions for these great volunteers.
Linda Brookins
LifeServe Blood Center is proud to nominate Linda Brookins for the 2021 Governor’s Volunteer Award. Linda has been a LifeServe volunteer in central Iowa for over ten years, typically volunteering more than 325 hours a year! Linda helps our Contact Center make phone calls to donors with upcoming appointments to remind them of their appointment and the precautions to take in order to have a safe and successful donation. She also helps making thank you phone calls to donors who either donated a first time, or donated a unit of blood that was particularly important to our organization. What really makes it an honor to nominate Linda is her commitment throughout the 2020 pandemic. Once the initial dust settled in May of 2020, Linda resumed her volunteer responsibilities and continued her pace of volunteering 10 hours per week throughout the rest of the year. We cannot thank Linda enough for her hard work and dedication to help us reach our mission of saving lives. Linda is simply a very kind person with a cheery smile and can-do attitude. She is very deserving of this recognition of her service to the people of Iowa.
Jean Curley
Jean Curley is an awesome representative and volunteer for LifeServe Blood Center. She started delivering blood to local hospitals as part of our Mason City, Iowa volunteer team in 2018. Ever since she started, she has been the model of consistency, coming in twice a week every week to help. When the pandemic hit, she not only maintained her commitment, but she increased it! In 2020 alone, she volunteered over 100 days, delivering lifesaving blood to not only cancer patients, trauma victims, and premature babies, but also to those hospital patients fighting COVID19. She is very deserving of this recognition of her service to the people of Iowa.
